ZaZou Bistro Moderne

“Nestled in the stone facade of the now silent Trinidad Country Club lies ZaZou Bistro Moderne.”

Combining haute French culinary techniques with seasonal local fare, ZaZou’s intimate setting has garnered it a loyal client base and accolades from restaurant reviewers as well as three Table Talk Awards, including Chef of the Year, in 2015.

Last month, Sarina our Junior Content Officer visited to try the latest innovation being offered by French Chef Pierre Le Bihan and his Trinidadian wife Zanifa.

Simply titled Dinner and A Movie couples, friends, and adventurous foodies can enjoy a 3-course meal and a French Film, underneath the stars at a fixed price (exclusive of drinks).

Chef’s Soup of the Day

♦ Tomato Soup with Cream of Smoked Herring ♦

The distinctly assertive flavor of Smoked Herring mutates here into something otherworldly that both marries with and softens the sometimes acidic nature of tomato soup. In the process, both components are instantly elevated.

Catch of the Day

♦ Lemon & Fresh Herbs Beurre Blanc/Basil Mash/Seasonal Vegetables ♦

A pleasing mix of bright garden flavours surround these cylindrical, white fish presentations.

♦ Pan Fried Far Breton with Salted Caramel Sauce ♦

Reminiscent in flavour to flan but firmer in texture, this was my first time tasting Far Breton, a traditional dessert from the French region of Brittany. Simply put, I loved it. The caramel sauce provided an interesting counterpoint to the sweetness of the cake, as did the poached grapes, which had absorbed the sauce’s flavor.
